Being older doesn't have to end your earning capabilities. Senior citizens  have the same rights to employment as everyone else.  If you are unemployed but want to work, there may be part and full-time job opportunities right in your neighborhood. To find out about job openings, contact the Employment Unit at your local Area Agency on Aging (AAAs) or contact your local Career Link Center.  Employment opportunities are also available by visiting the Career Link website.

Employment Services Available Through Your Local Area Agencies on Aging:

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
Individuals age 55 and older are assigned to useful part-time community service positions with public and private non-profit agencies such as social service agencies, public housing facilities, senior centers, public schools, etc.  One of the goals of SCSEP is for the participant to obtain an unsubsidized job through the experience obtained from the community service assignment.  Participants usually work an average of 20 hours a week for which they are paid the federal minimum wage.  For additional information contact your AAA.

55 Plus Job Bank-Brokerage System

Some AAAs provide job brokerage services by assisting individuals age eligible, but not necessarily income eligible, for SCSEP. Individuals are matched with appropriate full or part-time jobs through the AAA's employment brokerage system. AAAs that do not provide brokerage services directly refer older job seekers to the local CareerLink Center.

You must be age 55 or older to receive these employment services.

Contact your local AAA for more information.

Employment Services Available Through Other Organizations:
There are currently 10  national organizations in Pennsylvania that also administer the Senior Community Service Employment Programs.
